Jerry Oberhaus, representing public school teachers, is a seventh grade teacher at Liberty Center Middle School in Liberty Center.
Oberhaus teaches integrated science and has earned the Governor's Award of Excellence for Youth Science
Opportunities. He has served in various leadership roles including science fair director and mentor
scholar for elementary and middle school science. He is also an adjunct faculty member of Bowling Green
State University
In addition, he has conducted workshops and science summer camps and has been a presenter for the Ohio
Middle School Association and the Ohio Education Association, The Ohio Student Education Association.
He serves as president of the Northwestern Ohio Education Association and chair of the OEA District
Leaders Council. Previously he served as a co-chair on the Governor's Commission for Teaching Success
(2001-2003)
Oberhaus is certified by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards ('99, recertified '08) in
early adolescence science, and was a top ten finalist for the National Award of Teaching Excellence in 2009. He has been nominated for the Presidential Excellence in Teaching Science Award and as a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar. He is in his 23rd year of teaching.
He holds a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and a master's degree from Wright State
University. Oberhaus has completed 42 hours of graduate course work beyond his master's degree
predominately at Miami University
