Kathy Goins Kathy Goins, representing Ohio school board members, is a professional school counselor at Pickaway-Ross Career and Technical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Kathy is a veteran educator with 28 years experience in public education serving students at Wilmington City Schools, Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Scioto County Career Center prior to coming to Pickaway-Ross.

Kathy has also been involved in professional organizations including the Ohio Association of Career and Technical Education (Ohio ACTE) as a member of the Ohio Vocational Education Leadership Institute (OVELI) and as a Student Services board member; the Ohio School Counselor Association Board (OSCA) as a District representative, president, and is currently serving as Midwestern Region Vice President on the national board of directors for the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). She also has served as an active board member for the Ohio Counseling Association (OCA).

Kathy has been involved in school reform efforts including training for the High Schools That Work Technical Assistance Review Facilitators, Co-Nect reform and Continuous Improvement Teams at Pickaway-Ross CTC, and the Governors Institute for Creativity and Innovation in Education. Kathy also represents Ohio school counselors at the National Summits on Strengthening State Guidance Leadership.

As a Valley Local School District board of education member, first elected in November 2005, Kathy has been active with the Ohio School Boards Association participating in various professional development opportunities such as the Board Leadership Institutes, Capital Conference, Student Achievement Liaison, and Legislative Liaison for her district. As past board president for Valley Local School District, Kathy led the implementation of a Five- Year School Improvement Plan with the services of OSBA.

Kathy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Consumer and Homemaking Education from The Ohio State University in 1983 and her Masters Degree in School Guidance and Counseling from Xavier University in 1986. She has completed 45 graduate hours beyond her Master’s Degree at various universities and continues to grow professionally with the goal of completing a doctorate of education degree in the near future.

Kathy is married to Dwight Goins, a former vocal and instrumental music educator and school administrator who currently serves as a consultant for the Region 15 State Support Team in Piketon, Ohio. They have two children still at home, Jonathan who is a student at Eastern Kentucky University and Katie, a Valley High School student.
