Sandy Orth, representing public school teachers, is a Literacy Support Teacher with Toledo Public
Schools in Toledo, Ohio.
Sandy began her career as an elementary teacher. After 13 years of teaching she became a Teacher on Special
Assignment for her district and spent the next 9 years as a Literacy Coach, Literacy Specialist, and Literacy
Support Teacher. Additionally, she is a National Trainer for the American Federation of Teachers, and was also
a member of the AFT's Review Panel for the English-Language Arts Common Core State Standards. Sandy has served
as a member of the English-Language Arts Content Advisory Committee for the Ohio Department of Education; an
e-Learning Facilitator for eRead Ohio; past SIRI Instructor; and a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar. In 2008,
Sandy achieved National Board Certification in Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood.
Sandy holds a bachelor's degree from The University of Toledo, a Masters in the Art of Teaching from
Marygrove College, and obtained her Reading Endorsement from The University of Findlay.
