Educator Standards Board Reviews Feedback, Prepares for State Board of
Education Meeting
At its Board Retreat in June, board members reviewed and analyzed the
feedback they received from the public throughout the spring and early summer in
an effort to determine what was appropriate to incorporate into the existing
draft standards. A second round of feedback will take place in August by expert
reviewers and various stakeholder groups, which board members will use to
continue to make recommendations to the writing teams developing the standards.
Based upon this collective feedback, the Board will post the new set of
standards to the Educator Standards Board Web site,
www.esbfeedback.com, to provide the
public another opportunity to provide any additional reactions to the standards.
Following this comment period, the Board will present the most up-to-date set of
teacher, principal and professional development standards to the State Board of
Education for review at its monthly meeting in October 2005.
Board Members Elect 2005-2006 Officers
The Educator Standards Board re-elected Bill Shriver as the Board chairperson
and Maureen Yoder as Vice Chairperson for 2005-2006 to continue to lead the
efforts of the Board as it finalizes and implements the new educator standards
this upcoming school year.
An additional action item included the appointment of a subcommittee charged
with developing a preamble for all three sets of standards. The committee, which
will include Jim Uphoff, Paul King, Rod Chu, Mickie Sebenoler and Karen Wells,
will report on its work at the upcoming August 7-8 ESB meeting.
Monthly Meetings Updated to More Effectively Communicate with State Board
The Educator Standards Board adjusted its monthly meeting schedule during
September, October and November to occur one week after the State Board of
Education meetings during those months to provide for a more efficient exchange
between the two entities during the standards submission process. The new dates
are as follows: Sept. 18-19; Oct. 16-17; and Nov. 20-21.
