November 29, 2004
Overview
Today’s monthly online update will include updates on the following topics:
• Launch of the new Educator Standards Board Web site;
• First writing team meetings;
• Approval of consultants to work with the Teacher Standards and Principal Standards writing teams.
New Educator Standards Board Web site Launched in November
In an effort to provide Board members, stakeholders and the general public with a comprehensive online location for information about the development of Ohio’s new educator standards, the ESB Office recently published a new Web site dedicated specifically to the Educator Standards Board on Friday, Nov. 12.
The site, located at http://esb.ode.state.oh.us, will be updated on a regular basis to include items such as meeting minutes; meeting agendas; Board contact information; information regarding Senate Bill 2; and a complete list of stakeholder groups. The monthly online updates also will be archived at this location.
The site also can be accessed from the Ohio Department of Education’s home page at www.ode.state.oh.us under “hot topics” or on the home page of the Center for the Teaching Profession at www.ode.state.oh.us/Teaching-Profession/default.asp. Please use this as a resource to access information around the progress of the Board as it develops the new standards.
Writing Teams Hold First Meeting
On Oct. 27-28, the Teacher Standards writing team, the Principal Standards writing team and the Professional Development writing team met for the first time to address information regarding the standards work in general, as well as the specific requirements of Senate Bill 2.
The teams discussed ideas for their respective standards and the use of an analysis tool to review other state and national standards. The ideas generated from this will be shared with the Board.
Consultants Approved to Work with Writing Teams
The Educator Standards Board approved the New Teacher Center, University of California, Santa Cruz as lead consultant for the Teacher Standards Writing team and McREL as the lead consultant for the Principal Standards writing team. The next writing teams meetings will occur Dec. 8-9 around teacher and principal standards, and Dec. 15-16 regarding professional development.
